The Aratz route begins at the top of Otzaurte. We drive up from Zegama and park next to the enta de Otzaurte. From here there is a concrete track which leads to the Natural Park. We take this track and, after passing the sign indicating the entrance to the park and the fence, we take a steep path 50 metres further on up to the wood. From this point we do part of the route corresponding to the Zegama-Aizkorri marathon as far as the San Adrián tunnel, from where, without reaching theSancti Spiritu hermitage, we must begin to descend the GR-121 gradually until we reach the top of Otzaurte again.
Many sections of the trail are marked with the yellow dots of the Zegama-Aizkorri marathon, the red and white markings of the GR and the signs of the Trail Station. However, for your safety, the use of a GPS is compulsory. The weather can change quickly which could lead to you getting lost in the mist. With snow or in bad weather, some of the markings will not be visible.
