This year 2020, the Bézou cable car being closed, the departure is directly from Gourette, which adds 250m of difference in height.
From the top of the Bézou gondola lift, leave in an eastward crossing, passing under the TK of Sarrière, in front of the Snow KF and under the TK of Cotch. Continue on the cross piste which runs under the east face of the Pène Sarrière.
Cross the brook in front of the Coste de Goua hut and follow the path that climbs up the grassy slopes in large bends above the hut (yellow markings, regular cairns). You cross the brook several times and walk through large valleys, dotted with short springs, to the Louesque lakes.
Go along these lakes, then by a large crossing going up to the right, join the crest line of the Sanctus. The summit is nearby on your left. Continue on the ridge then switch to the left where the path leads you quietly to the Col d'Uzious.
From this pass, follow the Lavedan lake upstream, do not immediately enter the Hourquette d'Arre valley. About halfway along the lake, walk along the rocky slabs on your right. About 100m above the lake, look for a path (blue-yellow markers, cairns) going up to the right which takes you up into a hanging valley (Hourquette d'Arre valley on your left). At the exit of this stony valley (red ferruginous rocky slabs), you cross the GR10 which you follow for a few dozen metres on your right.
You then leave the GR10 fairly quickly (if you come within sight of the Lac d'Anglas or the circular ruins of an abandoned sheepfold, make a U-turn), aiming for a well-marked pass on your left (scree) to reach the ridge (yellow markings, cairns).
Once on the ridge, just follow the wire (to the right), climb to the top of Arre Sourrins. The ridge, which is quite wide at the start, gradually narrows as you descend from the summit (air passages). You will follow the supply lines of an avalanche trigger and pass close to the GAZEX shelter. A little further on, just before the solar panels, plunge into the couloir on the right (cairns, yellow markings) which takes you to the Pène Blanque piste. Follow this track until you reach the lakes of Pla Ségounée (on your left). Go down the rocky shoulder (yellow markings) leaving the scree slopes at the foot of the Ger peak on the left hand side until you reach the large flat area near the start of the Anglas chairlift. Go down into the combe (Pla Ségouné chairlift on your right) and reach the top of the Bézou cable car.
The Trail Card, available at the reception desk, allows you to benefit from special rates to get there.
Through our practice, it is essential to respect the work of the farmers, other operators and owners who welcome us on their land :
So that the herds do not escape, close all the electric fences well and do not damage them!
Also, do not disturb the herds, greet the people you meet with a friendly "hello", and of course bring back all your rubbish! Do not cut routes through the meadows, and do not picnic either!
Tip: Download this route before you leave and let the Trail Running Resorts app guide you.
